Hi all,
I keep getting queries about SIG (Symbiosis Institute of Technology), should people take admissions or not ???
Here are answers to few Questions...
Q1. I want to join SIG what are its prospects.
My Answer. The prospects are good, but purely depends on the individuals interest.
Q2. What is the package that is offered after passing out from SIG?
My Answer. It depends, normally it is from 2Lacs p.a. to 4.5 lacs p.a.
Q3. What is the mix of students normally taking admission for this course.
My Answer. There is a good mix of student from varied fields from Agriculture to forestry, Computers, Civil, Mechanical, IT, BCom, MA, and many such different people...
Q4. What are the basic requirements for the course?
My Answer. I would recommend people to have a good knowledge of programming as it is a part of the course and finally u have to work on that irrespective of the field you are from.
Q5. What languages are taught at SIG.
My Answer. Java, SQL, C#, VB are few of them that are taught.
Q6. What are the GIS/Image Processing tools that are taught in the course?
My Answer. ArcGIS, Erdas, GeoMedia, Geomatica, ILWIS Leica Photogrammetry Suite etc...
Q7. I have done BCom is the course recommended to me ?
My Answer. Again it purely depends on individuals interest, if you are interested go ahead.
Q8. Is it a purely technical course.
My Answer. Yes it is a purely technical course. where few engineering concepts, surveying techniques are also taught.
Q9. I have done BCom and got a call from a good Business School, where should i go, SIG or MBA?
My Answer. Thats a tough one still, it depends on you. if u are interested to take the challenge to go SIG, if you want to come to GIS field as a manager go for MBA. MBA is recommended by me as it is more relevant to BCom and you can join in as GIS manager later.
Q10. What are the questions asked during GD/PI?
My Answer. In GD the question/topic could be anything and you have to talk on that topic sensibly. whereas in PI they normally ask about ur knowledge in GIS, basics, its applications in various fields, I would recommend you to read a few case studies on GIS in Disaster management, GIS in agriculture/ urban planning / crop yeild / rural development and so on.

Family tree
Have you ever though for the generations that will follow, i probably did and in the fight of that thinking I found a new way to connect all my family members,.
One can make a family tree, add members, their profiles, photographs, birthdates, death dates, relation ships, and see your family tree grow.
Its a super secure system and only family members can see your tree. Geni was founded by former executives and early employees of PayPal, Yahoo! Groups, Ebay, and Tribe. It is backed by venture capital firms Founders Fund and Charles River Ventures. So all gurus have joined hands to create this wonderful piece of work. My family members including me have managed to add around 860 members and that might sound unbelievable but thats true and to manage such a huge family one needs something great.
the website is http://www.geni.com, its for free right now and lets hope it remains free.

Seriously i do
Warning : This site is really addictive and you dont feel like leaving it half way give it a try.

How to fix stuck pixels on LCDs
How to fix stuck pixels on LCDs
Do you have a pixel that is stuck on a certain color (other than black) on your LCD monitor or laptop? Luckily it's only ever happened to me once, and thankfully it eventually started working again. Stuck pixels are ones where they continuously show one non-black color; dead pixels are the black ones, and there's usually not much that can be done about those.
So if you have a stuck pixel, how can you fix it? This is Download Squad, so with software, of course! Online software, no less. JScreenFix is a little utility that will display a set of dizzying patterns to exercise each color cell of each pixel on your monitor. I don't pretend to understand how this works, but apparently displaying this random set of colors can repair most stuck pixels in about 20 minutes, and can also help to mitigate burn-in damage to plasma screens - although this takes much longer.
Simply visit the site, and click the link provided to open a popup window containing the Java applet. There are also standalone versions available, including a PDA version.

Free Online Storage ... G > Drive ... a step above ....

Hey People !
Tighten your seat belts, coz this is gonna grip you all again a Google initiative to blow up your mind... Go ahead...
My facination for Google always kept on increasing because of they keep innovating. We all know that Google gives 2.7 + GB for email storage. This initiative was Google's way of standing out of all email services. This initiative was not the only one they took. Their search was always innovative and mind blowing. They again took over KeyHole and renamed and reframed it to a very easy to use product called Google Earth. Then their Spreadsheet came to show the world that spreadsheets can be modified online by multiple people at a time. This writeup looks like my previous post isn't it??
Nay! Its not... Am gonna tell you one ultra hidden service of Google. This service is not listed on Google Labs, i don't know the reason though. Its called GDrive or Google Drive. And if u say that u knew it earlier then you are guilty coz u never informed the world about this great service. And for the people who are not aware of this GDrive. Its a virtual drive of size (2.7 gigabyte MINUS your gmail account) this means that if you are using 700 MB of your Gmail inbox then you get 2.7 GB - 700 MB which comes to 2.0 GB of storage space.
Isn't it amazing? Yes of course it is. Now we can upload all kinda files on our google GDrive and then definitely download it from any where in the world. Let it be music files, portable document files or PDF's, document files or let it be any other setup files, zip files. The difference is that you upload your files directly in your gmail inbox without logging on the gmail page. It does it indirectly. Its all your space and its your reign. So go ahead and start uploading it.
Haan baba... telling you how to do it..
Step 1 :
Visit this link and download the zip file
http://download.softpedia.com/software/internet/email/gmailfs110.zip
Step 2 :
Install the setup file from the zip file.
Step 3 :
Go to My computer and find your GMail Drive
Step 4 :
Click on the GMail Drive and login into your gmail account.
Done...
You have logged in to your gmail account now start Uploading and enjoy...
And haan to add it.. the file that you upload goes directly to your inbox as a mail... so you don't need a different interface to download the files.

Google's Paying :)
And who is not attracted after reading such an interesting and attractive heading. Let me take you through the process of knowing the Google strategy.
Its true that Google is a giant in the internet search business, rather a leader, standing all odds against the Titans like Microsoft and Yahoo. I have been a fan of innovation a.k.a Google. And if you keep looking at their product ranges you are stunned. With the latest one being the spreadsheets which can be edited and shared online, there are so many in the Google Labs, Calculator, Search is always there, then theres Google Answers inspired by AskJeeves.com, also Google Scholar where one can find technical papers and articles related to technology. Translator, Google Earth, Picassa photo organisor and what not.
Though Yahoo is a runner up in the race and they are equally fast in implementing things mind you. I am facinated by the fast translation of technology and am enjoying it to the full let it be yahoo google or msn.
Coming back to Google, they have invented a very interesting but not unique way to distribute money through internet. You sit at home and check your balance this is what you are supposed to do. Its simple, if u own a website or a blog, you register for the Google AdSense, if someone clicks on that AdSense through your website, you get paid. There are lots of terms and conditions though. But you are not required to do any thing, not even click on those ads or your membership is cancelled, so don't try it on yourAd Sense. You sit at home and check your balance this is what you are supposed to do.
But what appealed me in Ad Sense is that it picks the advertisement headings from the text mentioned in your blog or text or the writeup and then displays relevant advertisements. For e.g. for My MTNL blog the advertisements displayed were Fast Internet Connections and so on as it picked related words from the blog and displayed the related advertisements.
This blog is intended to first make every one aware about this interesting strategy and then to invite you to take the initiative and click on the ads, Use google products and let me earn few dollahs HA HA I have started with it mind you.. $ 0.10 on the very first day with 2 firefox sign ups and one Ad Sense click.
So keep clicking with your Maut ki Ungli and spread the word may be this could be a turning point for any one of us and a chance to be a millionare...

MTNL KI JAI HO !!!
Writing the first blog was too difficult and this, second one of mine is not an exception. To write something bigger than a page was always a challenge for me. God knows, how have i cleared my exams by just streching my answers and writing some stories in the paper and fooling the examiners ;). Though they never noticed it, thats a different issue. NE ways... coming to the point.
Here i talk about INTERNET.
I am a frequent net user, tooooooo frequent indeed. More of a Netizen, than a citizen. Can't live without it at times. Let it be Orkut, yahoo etc etc... will try every thing new... And hence speed and reliabaility is one of the things i look forward for in the internet service. Hence without any doubt, a broadband fan and I enjoy the connection speed. Though have heard that in US the speed of the net is about 2-5 MBps which I can just imagine of, for the time being.
But talking about the service I got to use at home was SIFY. And to tell u all it wasn't a pleasure trip. May be, it wasn't Sify's problem, its the National Cable, the internet service provider... who thinks that he is one amongst Tata's and Ambani's for providing such great service.
Frequent disconnections was a routine. People complained but can't help, they had a new excuse every time, and the biggest hurdle that i faced, when at home was that of not having internet the whole day or for days and weeks together... Thanks to SIFY broadband as they were responsible for every thing.
Then finally the tubelight blinked after every thing and yesterday got a Broadband DSL MODEM, u guessed it right, MTNL Triband, will be active Insha Allah by tonight.
Triband has a different story to tell. Me n Dad went to the MTNL office to complete the formalities for the new connection. We met an officer, can't remember his name though, but as soon as we informed him that we need a Triband connection he said "Sir, its not triband that we offer right now Its Bi-Band". I was shocked to hear (Socha ki band baj gayi ab tou) that I thought that something wrong has happened and will have to again roll back to sify. But there was something which he wanted to convey, and it was simple, Triband stands for Telephone, Internet and Cable TV. Cable TV is a dream for MTNL till date, as informed. The officer said that he is hearing stories of MTNL providing consumers with Cable connections too since last two years but nothing has happened yet and nothing is foreseen for the coming six months, but who cares.
Every things fixed today the lineman will do the needful and then lets see.
For now, I am enthralled and excited to use the high speed internet connection (256 kbps)
Chao for now!
